Roving Exhibition on CEDAW and Hong Kong Women Development held

< Back

The Health, Welfare and Food Bureau (HWFB) today (March 10) launched a six-month roving exhibition on United Nations' Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and Hong Kong women development at 12 public libraries. Members of the public were welcome to see the exhibition.

The exhibition was first displayed at the Exhibition on The Ten-Year Achievements of Chinese Women in Beijing from August 30 to September 4 last year. People from different parts of the Mainland and around the world who were concerned about women development, as well as state leaders, had visited the exhibition.

The exhibition had been moved to Hong Kong since December last year, and had been displayed at seven government offices around the territory. From today to September 13, the exhibition would tour around 12 public libraries in Hong Kong.

The exhibition covered topics such as "Women's Commission", "Education and Training", "Economy and Elimination of Poverty", "Power and Decision-making", "Environment and Sustainable Development", "Health", "Combating Domestic Violence", "Culture and Technology", and "Protection of Rights and the Equal Opportunities Commission". It is expected that the exhibition would enhance public awareness of the CEDAW and the Government's efforts to implement the Convention.

The HWFB had issued a leaflet to tie in with the exhibition. The leaflet was distributed through the Public Enquiry Service Centres and the public libraries.

The CEDAW was extended to Hong Kong in 1996. The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government had been adhering to the principle of CEDAW and promoting public awareness of the Convention. The Government also worked closely with the Women's Commission and people from all sectors to promote womens well-being and status as well as to achieve gender equality.
