SHWF welcomes HA's proposed settlement on doctors' claims

The Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow today (June 20) said he was pleased to learn that the Hospital Authority (HA) has reached an in-principle agreement with the Doctors Working Group on the settlement package for doctors over their claims for rest days, statutory holidays and public holidays.

Dr Chow said it was in all parties' interest to settle the matter early and end the long overdue discussions.

"I hope the confrontation and lack of mutual understanding between the staff side and the management of HA will diminish, leading to a more harmonious working environment.

"As a statutory organisation, HA enjoys financial autonomy. We believe HA would work on ways of identifying funding sources for the settlement. The Government would like to learn more from HA the relevant financial arrangements," he added.
