Silver Hair Market Fair concluded (with photo)
The first-ever Silver Hair Market Fair Exhibition concluded today (November 19),
attracting more than 3,000 people who visited booths that displayed the latest
products and services available for the elderly in the market.
Addressing the finale of the Silver Hair Market Fair Exhibition, the Permanent
Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food (Health and Welfare), Ms Sandra Lee,
encouraged the business sector in Hong Kong to explore the local silver hair
market, having regard to international experience.
"With the ever-increasing population of the elderly, the demand for silver hair
products is expected to keep expanding. This in turn gives rise to ample
business opportunities," Ms Lee said.
She hoped the exhibition could bring about new ideas to the members of the
public and changes to the traditional concept on products and services for the
elderly.
The Chairman of the Elderly Commission (EC), Dr Leong Che-hung, said the finale
not only marked the closing ceremony of the Silver Hair Market Fair, but also
brought out the message of active ageing and inter-generational solidarity
through a wide range of energetic and cheerful performances by the elderly and
students.
Dr Leong said today's exhibition was a good start. He believed more
organisations would proceed with designing products or services catering for the
elderly and were innovative and of high quality.
"The EC will soon launch a pilot school-based elderly learning scheme to promote
a structured and self-help form of elderly learning in Hong Kong. We expect 18
schools to participate in the scheme, approximately one school in each district
to save a long journey for the elderly," he said.
Jointly organised by the Health, Welfare and Food Bureau and the EC, the Silver
Hair Market Fair Exhibition aimed at introducing to the elderly, their carers
and various service organisations the products or services cater for the needs
of the elderly; as well as servicing to establish network with all business
organisations, including small and medium enterprises, to promote the Silver
Hair Market concept.
