Electronic Health Record Sharing System commences operation

< Back

Commencing operation today (March 13), the Government's Electronic Health Record Sharing System (eHRSS) provides a platform for health record sharing between public and private healthcare organisations with patients' consent. This will enable healthcare providers to provide better and more timely treatment for patients.

The system is a territory-wide patient-oriented healthcare infrastructure, which will enhance the continuity of care, promote public-private partnership and improve the quality of healthcare services. Registration is voluntary and free of charge.

All 11 local private hospitals have registered to join eHRSS. Pre-registration of healthcare providers (HCPs) and patients who had joined the existing Public-Private Interface - Electronic Patient Record Sharing Pilot Project (PPI-ePR) with the new system has taken place in stages since commencing in December last year. The response so far has been positive.

As at March 10, more than 240 HCPs of PPI-ePR have applied to join eHRSS; of these, about 60 have completed registration. These HCPs include group practices, solo practitioners and other healthcare organisations, such as the health services in educational institutions and elderly care service providers. In addition, about 22 000 PPI-ePR patients have registered for migration to eHRSS.

To encourage more people to participate in eHRSS, the Government will conduct a series of promotional activities in the coming months, including setting up registration booths or arranging mobile registration teams to help the public to register at various service locations of the Hospital Authority and the Department of Health, and elderly homes. The public may also register with the sharing system through visiting the Electronic Health Record Registration Centres, applying online, or submitting applications by post, fax or drop-in box.

The list of registered HCPs, as well as registration methods and details, are available at the eHRSS website (www.ehealth.gov.hk).

The Government's Announcement in the Public Interest on eHRSS will be broadcast on TV and radio from March 15. It will be uploaded to the eHRSS website and the Information Services Department's YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/user/isdgovhk) on the following day for public viewing.
