SFH on Medical Registration (Amendment) Bill 2016

< Back

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, before attending a meeting of the Legislative Council today (July 15):

Reporter: (About the Medical Registration (Amendment) Bill 2016)

Secretary for Food and Health: Today is the last day of the last Legislative Council (LegCo) session of this term. Indeed, facing a continuous filibustering initiative by some LegCo members, there is a chance that the debate of the Medical Registration (Amendment) Bill cannot be completed and the bill cannot be passed in the LegCo today. Despite this, we are still making our effort to communicate with those doctors who are in support of the bill but nevertheless have some concerns, so that we can as far as possible alleviate their concerns. We would see whether we can establish some mechanisms in the event that the bill is passed to enhance communication between patients and doctors, and to ensure that the implementation of the passed legislation will go towards a correct direction.
