High-level government delegation to visit Singapore
A senior government delegation, led by Secretary for Health and Welfare, Dr E K Yeoh, will visit Singapore from May 23 to 26 to exchange views and experiences on the future development of health and welfare services in the two cities.
The visit is organized by the Singapore Ministry of Community Development and Sports. Members of the delegation include Mr Robin Gill, Deputy Secretary for Health and Welfare; Mrs Patricia Chu, Deputy Director of Social Welfare; and Mrs Tang Lai Yuen-yee, Chief Social Work Officer (Service Performance Section) of the Social Welfare Department.
During the stay in Singapore, the delegation will meet Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, Minister for Community Development and Sports, and Ms Lim Soo Hoon, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Community Development and Sports.
They will be briefed on areas relating to the provision of family and welfare services, measures to alleviate poverty, methods of allocating welfare services to NGOs, interface between the medical and welfare sectors particularly on relation to rehabilitation work, and services for young people with special reference to juvenile delinquents. Members will also take the opportunity to visit the Vocational Training and Employment Centre for the Disabled and a family service centre.
At the invitation of the organizers of the First National Disease Management Conference, Dr Yeoh will deliver a keynote speech at the opening of the conference on May 25. He will speak on the topic "Integrated health care delivery ( Infrastructure for Disease Management and Health Promotion". The event is co-organized by the Ministry of Health, National Health Care Group and the Disease Management Association of America.
Before leaving Singapore, Dr Yeoh will meet Mr Lim Hng Kiang, Minister for Health, for an exchange of view on areas of mutual interest.
