Registration for chiropractors
The following is issued on behalf of the Chiropractors Council:
The Chiropractors (Registration and Disciplinary Procedure) Rules, made by the Chiropractors Council under the Chiropractors Registration Ordinance, was published in the Gazette today (June 8).
The Rules set out the detailed registration and disciplinary procedures applicable to registered chiropractors in Hong Kong.
Specifically, the Rules provide for the Registration Committee and application for a practicing certificate, the duties and powers of the Preliminary Investigation Committee and the Inquiry Committee, and about documentation in relation to proceedings before an inquiry.
With the making of the Rules, the Chiropractors Council intends to invite application for registration as chiropractors with effect from September 1, 2001.
To tie in with the commencement of the registration exercise for chiropractors, the Secretary for Health and Welfare has appointed September 1, 2001 to be the commencement date for the Chiropractors Registration (Fees) Regulation which provides for fees payable for registration as chiropractors and other related matters.
Chiropractors are persons trained and qualified in the practice of chiropractic including the practice of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of functional disorders of the human body through manipulation of the joints, particularly of the vertebral column and peripheral joints, including the pelvis. Enquiries about the registration system of chiropractors can be addressed to the Chiropractors Council on 2527 8363 or 2527 8360.
