SHW to attend international conferences on health, welfare
Secretary for Health and Welfare, Dr E K Yeoh, will lead a 53-member Hong Kong delegation to attend the conference "Health Care, East and West, Moving into the 21st Century" in Boston, USA, from June 25 to 29.
The event is jointly organized by the Chinese Medical Association and the Harvard Medical School. Dr Yeoh has been appointed Vice-President of the organizing committee representing the Chinese Medical Association.
The Hong Kong delegation comprises representatives from the Hong Kong Chinese Medical Association, Hong Kong Medical Association, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, Hospital Authority, and medical and health care specialists from the local universities.
Apart from attending the official conference programs, Dr Yeoh will host a seminar for the Hong Kong delegates on "Health Care Systems in the 21st Century" on June 29. Dr Robert Moffit, Director of Domestic Policy, the Heritage Foundation, and Dr Donald Wilson, Dean of School of Medicine, University of Maryland, Baltimore, will speak at the seminar.
From Boston, Dr Yeoh will fly to Vancouver, Canada, to attend the 17th Congress of the International Association of Gerontology. He will be joined by Mrs Eliza Leung, Deputy Director of Social Welfare, and Dr Daisy Dai, Senior Executive Manager (Operations and Service Development) of the Hospital Authority.
The Congress, to be held between July 1 and 6, provides a forum for promoting gerontological research and enhancing gerontological knowledge in clinical practice, behavioural and social sciences, and social policy, planning and practice. The theme of the Congress this year is "Global Ageing-Working Together in Changing World".
