Sir Robert Ho Tung Fund allocates $15M
The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund has recently allocated over $15 million to 118 charitable projects in the areas of health, medicine, rehabilitation, social welfare and special education.
"This generous donation enables 83 organisations to improve and extend their services for the benefit of the local community," Mr Robin Gill, Chairman of the Fund's Allocation Committee and Deputy Secretary for Health and Welfare, said today (July 1).
Major grants include a sum of $2.5 million for Tung Wah Group of Hospitals to acquire equipment and aids for elderly and chronically ill patients; $1.3 million for the Samaritan Fund to provide financial assistance to needy patients in public hospitals/clinics; $0.9 million for MacLehose Medical Rehabilitation Centre to set up a spinal cord injury rehabilitation centre; $0.7 million for St James' Settlement for setting up a mobile dental clinic for the elderly and mentally handicapped; and $0.7 million for the Ruttonjee Hospital for the haemoglobin analysis system for diabetes monitoring and equipment for frail elderly and high-risk patients.
Other fund recipients include Po Leung Kuk, Hong Kong Red Cross, The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong), The Family Planning Association of Hong Kong, The Salvation Army, Caritas - Hong Kong, Haven of Hope Christian Service, and the Hong Kong Federation of Women's Centre.
One of the major trust funds in Hong Kong, The Sir Robert Ho Tung Charitable Fund was set up in 1956 with a bequest of $500,000 by the late Sir Robert Ho Tung. It is now managed by the HSBC Trustee (Hong Kong) Ltd.
