Appointments to the Hospital Authority

The Government announced today (November 30) the appointment of six new members and the re-appointment of nine members to the Hospital Authority.

The six new members are: Dr Lily Chiang, Mr Anthony Ho Yiu-wah, Dr James Hwang Shu-tak, Mrs Mong Ko Mei-yee, Ms Scarlett Pong Oi-lan and Mr Paul Yu Shiu-tin. They are appointed for a period of two years with effect from tomorrow (December 1).

Dr Lily Chiang, a distinguished businesswoman, has extensive public service experience. She is currently a member of the Business Advisory Group.

Mr Anthony Ho, a legal consultant, has been active in public and community services, especially in hospital services. He is currently a member of the Development & Planning Subcommittee of the Caritas Medical Centre Hospital Governing Committee.

Dr James Hwang is an experienced surgeon. He is the Chairman of the General Surgery Board of the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Chief of Service of the Department of Surgery of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Mrs Mong, a registered nurse, has been in the nursing profession for over 30 years. She was the General Manager (Nursing) of the Kowloon Hospital until very recently.

Ms Scarlett Pong, a pharmacist, has been active in public and community services. She is currently a member of the Health and Medical Development Advisory Committee and the Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health. She has served as a member of the Hospital Governing Committee of the Tai Po Hospital since 1998.

Mr Paul Yu, a businessman, has been active in public and community services. He is currently a member of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Advisory Board.

The Hon Mrs Sophie Leung Lau Yau-fun is re-appointed as a member of the Hospital Authority for a period of one year with effect from December 1, 2001. Miss Eliza Chan Ching-har, Miss Iris Chan Sui-ching, Mr Lee Jark-pui, Dr Leong Che-hung, Mrs Eleanor Ling Lee Ching-man, Mr Lo Chung-hing, Professor Thomas Wong Kwok-shing and Mr Anthony Wu Ting-yuk are re-appointed for a period of two years, also with effect from December 1, 2001.

Secretary for Health and Welfare, Dr E K Yeoh, thanked the retiring members, Ms Nancy Chow Yee-wah, Mr Michael Ho Mun-ka, Dr Conrad Lam Kui-shing, Mr Stephen Lau Ka-men and Dr Patrick Li Chung-ki, for their expert advice and invaluable contributions to the Hospital Authority in the past years.

The newly-constituted Hospital Authority as at December 1, 2001 will comprise a Chairman, 21 non-official members, three public officers and one principal officer from the Hospital Authority. The full membership list is as follows:
