Appointments to the Social Welfare Advisory Committee

The Government announced today (November 30) the appointment of four new members and the re-appointment of 10 members to the Social Welfare Advisory Committee (SWAC) with effect from tomorrow (December 1).

The four new members are Miss Christine Fang Meng-sang, Mrs Mary Leung Ling Tien-wei, Ms Marina Wong Yu-pok and Mr Wilfred Wong Ying-wai.

Miss Fang is the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Council of Social Services. Mrs Leung is the Agency Director of Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service and a member of the Administrative Appeals Board. Ms Wong, a member of the Operations Review Committee of ICAC, is a certified public accountant and partner of Pricewaterhouse Coopers. Mr Wong is the Vice-Chairman of Shui On Holdings Ltd and a member of the Commission on Youth.

Dr Philemon Choi Yuen-wan and Dr Hon Law Chi-kwong have been re-appointed for a period of one year.

The eight members who are re-appointed for a period of two years are: Mr Darwin Chen, Mr Wilfred Lee Chee-wah, Dr Leung Cho-bun, Professor Diana Mak Ping-see, Mr Poon Huen-wai, Mr Aaron Wan Chi-keung, Mr Peter Dicky Yip and Miss Jessie Yu Sau-chu.

Secretary for Health and Welfare, Dr E K Yeoh, thanked the outgoing members for their active participation in the work of the Committee during their terms of office. He also welcomed the appointment of the four new members to the Committee and looked forward to their contribution to the development of welfare services in Hong Kong.

The functions of the SWAC are to keep social welfare services under continuous review and to advise the Government on all policy issues relating to welfare development.
