SFH on hepatitis A infection

Following is the transcript of remarks made by the Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, at the Legislative Council Building today (April 16):

Reporter: (About the source of infection.)

Secretary for Food and Health: Up to this moment in 2015, the Centre for Health Protection has received a total of 64 cases of viral hepatitis A infection. However, epidemiological investigation up to this stage fails to identify or link up a particular source of infection.

Reporter: (On advice to the public.)

Secretary for Food and Health: Generally, I would like to let our people know that the most important way to prevent hepatitis A infection is to pay attention to high risk food items, especially shellfish, and food which has not been thoroughly cooked, as well as other raw food items which have been stored at room temperature for a prolonged period.
