SFH to visit Beijing

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr Ko Wing-man, will tomorrow morning (September 15) leave for a three-day visit to Beijing to meet with the relevant Mainland authorities on various food and health issues of mutual concern.

After arriving in Beijing, Dr Ko will pay a courtesy visit to the Deputy Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Mr Zhou Bo, in the afternoon.

In the morning on September 16, Dr Ko will meet with the Vice Minister of the State General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, Mr Mei Kebao, to discuss topics including food supply from the Mainland and the development of Equine Disease-free Zone in Conghua. He will then meet with the Vice Minister of Commerce, Mr Zhong Shan, to discuss food supply to Hong Kong, including live food animals. In the afternoon, Dr Ko will call on the Vice Minister of National Health and Family Planning Commission, Mr Ma Xiaowei, to exchange views on medical support in emergencies.

Dr Ko will meet with the Vice Minister of China Food and Drug Administration, Mr Wu Zhen, in the morning on September 17 to discuss co-operation between the two places on developing Chinese and Western medicine. He will return to Hong Kong in the evening.

Accompanying Dr Ko on the visit will be the Director of Health, Dr Constance Chan.
